UnReal Gym Bangkok." updated: "2026-10-06" kind: guide cta: inbody short_answer: "There is no single official healthy range. A widely used chart from the American Council on Exercise puts fitness at 14 to 17 percent for men and 21 to 24 for women, and average at 18 to 24 and 25 to 31. Sex, age and ethnicity shift the right number, and any scanner adds a few points of error." - ## What is a healthy body fat percentage? It depends on who you are and how you train. Gallagher and colleagues wrote in 2000 that no accepted published ranges existed, and ranges still vary by source. The chart most gyms quote is from the American Council on Exercise (ACE):
Body fat percentage categories, American Council on Exercise
CategoryMenWomen
Essential fat2 to 5%10 to 13%
Athletes6 to 13%14 to 20%
Fitness14 to 17%21 to 24%
Average18 to 24%25 to 31%
Obese25% and above32% and above
We read this chart on 6 October 2026 as printed in TomTom's fitness band manual, which credits ACE and notes that the table gives generic estimates and that you should consult your physician for guidelines that fit you. We could not open ACE's own copy of the table, so check ACE if you need the original wording. The top row is not a target. ACE labels it essential fat, the lowest amount the chart lists. Do not diet toward it without a coach or a doctor. ## Why does a healthy range differ between people? Because the same BMI hides different amounts of fat. Gallagher and colleagues (2000) measured body fat with reference methods (a four compartment model and DXA) in 1,626 adults from white, African American and Asian groups, with BMIs up to 35. Sex, age and ethnic group were all independent predictors of percentage body fat at a given BMI, and the prediction error was 2.8 to 5.4 percentage points of fat. They concluded that their approach gives a groundwork for healthy ranges, not a final table. That is the honest state of the field: ranges are provisional. ## Is BMI or body fat percentage a better measure? Neither is complete, and they answer different questions. BMI is weight divided by height squared. It cannot tell muscle from fat. Body fat percentage tries to, which is why an InBody sheet shows both. A World Health Organization expert consultation (2004) reviewed evidence that Asian populations have different associations between BMI, percentage body fat and health risk than European populations. It found the share of Asian people at high risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease is substantial at BMIs below the standard overweight cut off of 25. It kept the international cut offs as the classification, and flagged extra action points at 23.0, 27.5, 32.5 and 37.5 kg per square metre. In Bangkok that means a BMI of 24 is not automatically "fine". It is also a reason to look at body fat and visceral fat, not weight alone. See [visceral fat level explained](/wiki/visceral-fat-level). ## How accurate is a body fat percentage from a scanner? Accurate enough to track change, not accurate to the decimal. In the McLester study (2020) of three InBody models against DXA in 67 healthy adults, the devices underestimated body fat percentage compared with DXA, and the smallest difference between two scans that exceeded measurement error was 2.12 to 2.73 percentage points. In the 2023 Nickerson study of 130 adults, the InBody 570, DXA and a rapid four compartment model all fell within about plus or minus 4.9 to 5.2 percentage points of a criterion model at the 95 percent limits. Practical reading: a scan that says 22 percent could reasonably be a few points either way compared with another method. Use the same machine under the same conditions, as in [how often to measure body composition](/wiki/how-often-to-measure-body-composition). ## How do you lower your body fat percentage? Fat loss is driven by a sustained calorie deficit, according to the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) position stand on diets and body composition. It adds that the higher your starting body fat, the more aggressively a deficit may be applied, and that slower rates of loss can better preserve lean mass in leaner people. Keeping muscle while you do it takes resistance training and enough protein: the ISSN protein position stand gives 1.4 to 2.0 grams per kilogram of bodyweight per day as sufficient for most exercising people. Our [body recomposition guide](/wiki/body-recomposition) covers the combination, and a coach can set it up in [nutrition coaching](/nutrition-coaching-bangkok). ## Sources - American Council on Exercise body fat chart, as reproduced in [TomTom's ACE Body Composition Percentage Chart](https://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/band/html/en-gb/ACEBodyCompositionPercentageChart-Ibiza.htm) (read 2026-10-06). - Gallagher D and others. UnReal Gym Bangkok." updated: "2026-10-06" kind: guide cta: inbody short_answer: "Sometimes, with limits. In a 4 week trial of 40 young men on a large calorie deficit and heavy training, the group eating 2.4 g of protein per kg gained about 1.2 kg of lean mass while losing about 4.8 kg of fat. That was a hard trial, not a template. Training and protein are the common ingredients." - ## What is body recomposition? Body recomposition means changing what your weight is made of: less fat, the same or more muscle. The scale may barely move, which is why it is easy to miss without a body composition scan. A scan shows skeletal muscle mass and body fat mass separately, as covered in our [InBody result sheet guide](/wiki/inbody-scan-explained). ## Can you lose fat and build muscle at the same time? The evidence says yes in some conditions, and we would not oversell it. Longland and colleagues (2016) ran a randomised trial in 40 young men, 20 per group. For 4 weeks both groups ate about 40 percent below their energy needs and did resistance training plus high intensity interval training 6 days a week. One group ate 1.2 g of protein per kg of bodyweight per day, the other 2.4 g. The higher protein group gained 1.2 kg of lean body mass and lost 4.8 kg of fat mass. The lower protein group gained 0.1 kg of lean mass and lost 3.5 kg of fat. Body composition was measured with a four compartment model. Read the limits as clearly as the result. It was 4 weeks, young men, a very high training volume and a large deficit. It shows that protein and training can shift the balance, not that everyone will gain muscle while dieting at that pace. The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) adds that slower rates of weight loss can better preserve lean mass in leaner people, so a lean person has less room to push a deficit. ## How much protein do you need for body recomposition? The ISSN protein position stand says 1.4 to 2.0 grams per kilogram of bodyweight per day is sufficient for most exercising people to build and maintain muscle. It adds that higher intakes, 2.3 to 3.1 g per kg, may be needed to maximise the retention of lean mass in resistance trained people during periods of calorie restriction. Our shop guide to [how much protein per day](https://shop.unrealgymthailand.com/learn/how-much-protein-per-day?utm_source=gym_site&utm_medium=wiki&utm_campaign=body-recomposition) turns that into grams for your weight. If you are asking whether more protein is safe, see [is whey protein safe](https://shop.unrealgymthailand.com/learn/is-whey-protein-safe?utm_source=gym_site&utm_medium=wiki&utm_campaign=body-recomposition), which reads the kidney evidence. ## How should you train for recomposition? The American College of Sports Medicine position stand on resistance training for healthy adults recommends, for novices, a frequency of 2 to 3 days a week with loads around 8 to 12 repetition maximum. For intermediate lifters it recommends 3 to 4 days a week and for advanced lifters 4 to 5, with load increased by 2 to 10 percent once the current load becomes easy. If you are starting out, our [beginner weight training programme](/beginner-weight-training-programme) is built on that statement. ## How big should the calorie gap be? The ISSN diets and body composition position stand says fat loss is driven by a sustained calorie deficit, that a higher starting body fat allows a more aggressive deficit, and that slower loss can better preserve lean mass in leaner people. It does not give one number for everyone, and neither will we. A coach can set yours in [nutrition coaching](/nutrition-coaching-bangkok). ## How do you know it is working? Do not rely on the scale. Track these over weeks, scanning under the same conditions each time: - Skeletal muscle mass holding or rising. - Body fat mass falling in kilograms. - Your waist measurement and your lifts. Remember the noise floor. In the McLester study (2020) the smallest body fat percentage change between two InBody scans that beat measurement error was 2.12 to 2.73 points, so give a block of training several weeks before you judge it. See [how often to measure body composition](/wiki/how-often-to-measure-body-composition) and [what a good InBody score is](/wiki/good-inbody-score). ## Who should check with a doctor first? Anyone with a medical condition, anyone on medication that affects weight or appetite, and anyone with a history of disordered eating should speak to a doctor or dietitian before changing how they eat or train. This page is general information, not advice for your case. ## Sources - Longland TM and others. Specialisms, how matching works, and how to get started." updated: "2026-06-14" - # Coaches Every coach here competes, studies, or has built a career in their discipline. There are no app-reading personal trainers on the floor. Each one specialises, because generalists do not produce results. If your coach cannot explain why you are doing what you are doing, get a new coach. We are restructuring the coaching line-up, so individual coach profiles are not listed here for now. What has not changed is the standard: IFBB Pro stage records, IPF Coach II credentials, female strength specialists, and bilingual Thai and English coaching. ## What our coaches specialise in - **Bodybuilding** - prep, off-season, and posing, programmed by coaches who compete at IFBB Pro level. - **Powerlifting** - squat, bench, deadlift with IPF Coach II credentials, peaking blocks, and meet-day handling. - **Female Strength** - hypertrophy and strength built for women athletes, not a watered-down men's program. - **Sports Nutrition** - body-composition strategy, contest dieting, and everyday eating that holds. - **Functional & Combat** - conditioning, mobility, and Muay Thai-adjacent strength work for fighters and ex-athletes. - **Longevity** - joint health, mobility, and strength that ages well, built for the next forty years. ## Guest coaching: Calum Von Moger Three-time Mr. Universe and IFBB Pro, Calum Von Moger is a co-founder of UnReal Gym Bangkok and runs guest bodybuilding programmes when he is in town. Slots are limited and flexible by design. Ask the team to check current availability. ## How matching works You do not get assigned the next available body. You get matched to the coach whose specialism fits your goal. 1. Tell us your goal (build muscle, get stronger, prep for stage, return after injury, drop body fat, learn the basics). 2. Share your current routine, if you have one. 3. Flag any injuries or limitations we should know about. We come back with a coach whose specialism fits, a sample direction, and a time you can come try it. The first conversation is free. You do not commit to a plan until you have met them and you are sure. ## Get matched Reach the team any of these ways: - **WhatsApp:** [+66 97 945 5444](https://wa.me/66979455444) - **Instagram DM:** [@unrealgymbkk](https://instagram.com/unrealgymbkk) - **Train With Us form:** [fill in the enquiry form](/enquire?intent=coaching) See [Memberships](./memberships) for coaching day pass pricing (200 THB for active coaching clients) and [Getting Started](./getting-started) for what to expect on session one. ======================================================================== FULL PAGE TEXT: content/wiki/facilities.md ======================================================================== - title: "Facilities" slug: "facilities" description: "Floor by floor breakdown of UnReal Gym. Equipment brands, recovery zone, Posing Room, and what makes the kit different." updated: "2026-05-27" - # Facilities Three floors, 1,150 square metres, 75+ machines and stations, over 1,200 kilos of weight plates. Every machine on the floor is here for a reason. We are brand-agnostic, which means we buy what serious lifters actually use, not what gets us the best bulk deal. UnReal sits on Floors 6, 7, and 8 of the iStore Building on Sukhumvit Soi 24. ## Floor 6: Legs and Powerlifting The heavy floor. Reception is here, so this is where you check in. **Strength and powerlifting:** - Competition-spec squat racks and power racks with safety straps and band pegs - Two competition-grade comp racks and benches - Two deadlift platforms - Two additional dedicated squat racks - Drop zone platform for weightlifting - Specialist bars: Safety Squat Bar (SSB), trap bar, cambered bar - Calibrated competition plates: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 kg - The "scary looking cage" that keeps the unwanted away **Leg machines:** - GymLeco hack squat (exclusive to UnReal in Thailand) - Incline leg press - GymLeco leg equipment (Swedish-built, precision engineered) - Dumbbells up to 50 kg **Also on Floor 6:** - Reception and front desk - Merch (apparel, supplements, accessories) - Women's changing room - Towels and lockers ## Floor 7: Upper Body The hypertrophy floor. This is where most of the bodybuilding work happens. **Equipment:** - Squat rack and power rack for upper body work - Full dumbbell range from 2 kg to 60 kg - Cable crossovers - Multiple bench stations (flat, incline, decline) - GymLeco machines across the floor (Swedish, precision-built) - MaxPump equipment for hypertrophy-specific stations - "Rare gems" you will not find elsewhere: older, harder-to-source machines we kept because nothing replaces them - Crazy selection of cable attachments - Cardio section **Also on Floor 7:** - Posing Room (Bangkok's first dedicated room, stage lighting) - Men's changing room - Studio / podcast room - Vending machine - InBody 570 body composition scanner ## Muay Thai and Reset Club The combat and recovery floor. Where you strike, sweat in the sauna, and freeze in the tubs. **Muay Thai:** - Heavy bags (variety of weights) - Speed bags - Striking targets and pad work area - Open mat for free practice - Group class space **Reset Club BKK:** - TylöHelo dry sauna, Finnish spruce interior, 90 degrees C, fits up to 12 simultaneously. Towel and sauna hat service included. - Cold plunge tubs at 0 to 3 degrees C and 11 degrees C. Chiller-maintained, filtered, sanitised. - Rooftop deck (sunrise to sunset) with tropical greenery and uninterrupted Bangkok views - Relaxation areas for contrast therapy - Oversized towels, changing rooms, showers, soap, hair dryer, deodorant - Protein shakes from UnReal Fuel Bar can be delivered up to Reset **Open Gym (Floor 8):** Extra training space when 6 and 7 are busy. Accessible on + Open Gym and Unlimited plans. ## Equipment Philosophy We are brand-agnostic. That sounds like a marketing line, it is not. It means we picked every machine for what it does, not for the logo. You will see GymLeco (Swedish, precision-engineered), MaxPump, competition-grade plates, specialist bars from multiple sources, and a deliberate set of older machines we kept because no current model replicates them. Our setup has been certified by Olympians and IFBB Pros. We get more IFBB Pro visitors per square metre than any other gym on the continent. The kit is the proof. ## Posing Room Floor 7. Bangkok's first dedicated Posing Room and still the best. Stage lighting, full-height mirrors, the works. Used by IFBB Pros prepping for shows and members who want serious progress photos. Reserve in advance at the front desk. Included on every membership. ## Recovery and Amenities - Towels (large and small) included on every membership and day pass - Lockers available daily (collateral for key) or rentable monthly (1,300 THB / month, 3,000 THB / 3 months) - Showers, soap, hair dryer in changing rooms on every floor - High-speed Wi-Fi throughout - Fuel Bar with protein shakes and supplements - InBody 570 scans (Floor 7) - Air purifiers installed on site, alongside the air conditioning across every training floor Separately, our exact Sukhumvit Soi 24 address shows up as a public air quality monitoring point on Apple Maps' air quality layer, licensed by Apple from a third-party air quality provider (not an Apple measurement of our building itself). See [Clean Air Gym Bangkok](/clean-air-gym-bangkok) for the full, honest breakdown, including how to check the current reading yourself. ## What We Do Not Have We do not have a swimming pool. We do not have a creche. We do not have a "wellness lounge". We have training space, recovery space, and a Posing Room. Everything in the building is there because lifters use it. See [Location and Hours](./location-hours) for how to find us, and [Classes](./classes) for what runs in these spaces. ======================================================================== FULL PAGE TEXT: content/wiki/faq.md ======================================================================== - title: "FAQ" slug: "faq" description: "Every common question about UnReal Gym, answered straight." updated: "2026-05-27" - # FAQ The questions we get most, answered without the marketing voice. What to expect on day one, what to bring, free assessment, and how to book your first PT." updated: "2026-05-27" - # Getting Started You decided to come in. Here is exactly how day one works. No mystery, no upsell. ## Before You Arrive You do not need to book. Walk in any time between 06:00 and 22:00, seven days a week. If you want a guaranteed tour with a specific team member, message ahead on WhatsApp +66 97 945 5444 or Instagram @unrealgymbkk. **What to bring:** - Photo ID (passport or Thai ID) - Training clothes - Closed-toe training shoes (no flip flops, no sandals) - Water bottle (optional, we sell bottles and have a vending machine) - Hand wraps if you plan to try Muay Thai We provide towels (large and small), and showers, soap, and hair dryer are stocked in the changing rooms. ## The Walk-In 1. Enter the iStore Building on Sukhumvit Soi 24. 2. Take the lift to **Floor 6**. 3. Reception is straight ahead. Tell the team it is your first visit. The front desk team will: - Sign you in and check your ID - Walk you through the membership and day pass options - Give you a tour of all three floors (10 to 15 minutes) - Answer any questions about coaching, Reset Club, or the Posing Room If you decide to train that day, you pay for a day pass (or buy a plan on the spot) and you are on the floor. ## The Free Assessment Every new member on a plan of 1 month or longer gets: - **One free InBody 570 scan.** Body composition snapshot done in 60 seconds on Floor 7. - **A free orientation walk-through** with a coach (not a sales pitch). They show you the equipment, how the floors flow, where everything lives. If you want a structured first session with a coach, that is the start of a PT conversation. See below. ## Booking Your First PT Session If you want a coach, here is the process: 1. **Tell us your goal.** Build muscle, get stronger, prep for stage, return after injury, drop body fat, learn the basics. One sentence is enough. 2. **Mention any injuries or limitations.** Knees, back, shoulders, anything we should know. 3. **Pick a coach or let us match you.** See the [coaches page](./coaches) for who specialises in what. If you do not know, the front desk will pick for you based on your goal. 4. **First conversation is free.** You meet your matched coach for 15 to 30 minutes. They assess, you ask questions. No commitment. 5. **Choose a plan.** Committed (2 to 4 sessions per week for 8 to 24 weeks) or flexible (buy a block, use on your schedule). Active coaching clients get day passes at 200 THB instead of 500. ## What Day One Usually Looks Like A normal first day for a new member: 1. **06:30 to 09:00:** Walk in, check in at reception (Floor 6). 2. **Tour:** 10 to 15 minutes across all three floors. 3. **InBody scan:** Floor 7. Takes 60 seconds. Read the print-out with a coach if one is on the floor, or see [how to read an InBody result](/wiki/inbody-scan-explained). 4. **First session:** Train on whichever floor matches your day (legs Floor 6, upper body Floor 7, Muay Thai Floor 8). 5. **Reset (optional):** End with 30 to 90 minutes in the sauna and cold plunge at Reset Club. Shower first (mandatory). 6. **Front desk on the way out:** Ask any follow-up questions, set up your first coached session if you want one. You will not be pressured into a plan. You will not be sold supplements. We tell you what your options are and you decide when you are ready. ## Common First-Visit Questions **Do I have to commit to a plan to come in?** No. Day passes are 500 THB (UnReal Gym), 650 THB (+ Open Gym), or 950 THB (Unlimited). Use them as often as you want before committing. **What if I am a complete beginner?** That is fine. Gus speaks Thai fluently and is patient with first-timers. Dennis and Vic both work well with beginners. Tell the front desk and they will match you. **Will the gym be intimidating?** No. UnReal is a serious gym, but the floor culture is welcoming. People here are focused on their own work. Nobody is watching you. The rule "leave your ego outside" applies to everyone. **What if I want to try a Muay Thai class first?** Buy an Unlimited day pass (950 THB) and walk in 10 minutes before class. Check the front desk or Instagram for the current timetable. We supply gloves and wraps if you do not have them. **Can I just come in, train, and leave?** Yes. That is most of our members. Walk in, train, walk out. No check-in chat needed once you are signed up. ## After Day One If you decide UnReal is right for you, you have three paths: 1. **Walk-in day passes.** Pay as you go. Best if your schedule is unpredictable. 2. **10 Day Pass.** 4,000 THB, valid 90 days. Best if you train 2 to 3 times a week. 3. **Monthly or longer.** 4,800 THB for 1 month, 13,000 THB for 3 months, scaling down per month as you commit longer. Best value at 6 or 12 months. See [Memberships](./memberships) for the full pricing table. ## Before You Leave Save the front desk contact in your phone: - **WhatsApp:** +66 97 945 5444 - **Phone:** +66 97 945 5444 - **Instagram:** @unrealgymbkk Follow us on Instagram for class schedules, holiday hours, and member events. What the number means and what it does not" heading: "What is a good InBody score?" description: "How the InBody score is calculated, why 80 is the reference point, why online score charts disagree, and how to use your score as a trend. By the UnReal Gym Bangkok team." updated: "2026-10-06" kind: guide cta: inbody short_answer: "InBody sets the baseline score at 80, the reference for a standard body at your height. More muscle than that standard and less fat add points, the reverse takes points off. Published bands such as 70 to 79 for good differ between sources, so read your own score as a trend, not a grade." - ## How is the InBody score calculated? InBody's help desk describes five steps: 1. The scanner works out a standard weight from your height and a desirable BMI, set at 22 kg per square metre for men and 21.5 for women. 2. It sets an ideal body composition for that standard weight: 15 percent fat for men and 23 percent for women, the rest lean mass. 3. It compares your lean body mass with the standard. 4. It compares your body fat mass with the standard. 5. It applies the differences to a baseline score of 80. Points are added to 80 when your lean mass is above the standard or your fat mass is below it, and taken off when muscle is lacking or fat is above it. ## Is 80 a good InBody score? 80 is the reference point, not a pass mark. InBody says scores above 80 are considered to have a positive body composition balance, and scores below 80 a less balanced composition of muscle and fat. The help article we read gives no further bands and no average for the population. So above 80 means your muscle and fat sit better against InBody's standard for your height. Below 80 means there is room to add muscle, lose fat, or both. ## Why do online InBody score charts disagree? Because the bands are interpretations, not InBody's definition. On 6 October 2026 we opened two pages on inbody.in, InBody's India site. One lists 80 to 100 as excellent, 70 to 79 as good, 60 to 69 as average, 50 to 59 as below average and under 50 as needing attention. Another lists below 70 as poor, 70 to 79 as average, 80 to 89 as good and 90 and above as excellent. Same score, different label. Use the calculation above as the fixed point. Treat any colour coded chart as one person's reading of it. ## What should you look at besides the score? The score is a summary of two things: muscle and fat compared with a standard for your height. Look at those two directly on your sheet, in the muscle and fat comparison: skeletal muscle mass and body fat mass. A score can move because you gained muscle, lost fat, or both. The two numbers tell you which. The scale cannot. For the numbers behind the score, see our guides to the [InBody result sheet](/wiki/inbody-scan-explained) and [healthy body fat percentage ranges](/wiki/body-fat-percentage-ranges). ## How do you raise your InBody score? The score rises with more muscle or less fat relative to the standard, and the habits that do that are not mysterious. - **Lift with progression.** The American College of Sports Medicine position stand on resistance training for healthy adults recommends novices train 2 to 3 days a week using loads around 8 to 12 repetition maximum, with load increased 2 to 10 percent once the current load gets easy. Our [beginner weight training programme](/beginner-weight-training-programme) turns that into a plan. - **Eat enough protein.** The International Society of Sports Nutrition says 1.4 to 2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight per day is sufficient for most exercising people to build and keep muscle. Our shop guide to [how much protein per day](https://shop.unrealgymthailand.com/learn/how-much-protein-per-day?utm_source=gym_site&utm_medium=wiki&utm_campaign=good-inbody-score) works it out for your weight. - **Use a modest calorie gap to lose fat.** The ISSN says diets focused on fat loss are driven by a sustained calorie deficit, and slower rates of loss can better preserve lean mass in leaner people. Read more in [body recomposition](/wiki/body-recomposition). ## Does the UnReal InBody challenge use the score? The challenge entry form asks for the InBody score printed on your sheet, plus your weight and height. Rules, dates and prizes change by part, so read the current ones on the [InBody challenge page](/inbody-challenge) rather than here. ## Sources - InBody USA help desk, [How is the InBody score calculated](https://lbwebfaq.inbodyusa.com/support/solutions/articles/69000810923-how-is-inbody-score-calculated) (read 2026-10-06). - InBody (inbody.in), [InBody score explained](https://www.inbody.in/blog/?p=3749) and [result sheet guide](https://www.inbody.in/result-sheet.php) (both read 2026-10-06, cited only to show that published bands differ). - American College of Sports Medicine. The standard at UnReal." updated: "2026-05-27" - # Gym Rules UnReal works because the people who train here respect the space and respect each other. The rules are short. They are enforced. Three strikes for repeated violations and your membership ends. ## The Non-Negotiables 1. **Put your weights back.** Every plate, every dumbbell, every attachment. This is the rule we enforce hardest. First offence: warning. Repeat: you are out. 2. **Leave your ego outside.** Nobody cares what you can lift. Respect the people training next to you. 3. **No phone calls on the gym floor.** Take it to the changing room or step outside. Music on headphones is fine. 4. **Proper shoes only.** No flip flops. No sandals. No slippers. Closed-toe training shoes only. 5. **Respect the equipment.** Do not slam weights unless you are on a deadlift platform. Wipe sweat from machines and benches before you walk away. 6. **Heavy deadlifts go on platforms.** Floor 6. Not on the rubber matting outside the platform area. 7. **Three strikes and you are out.** Three documented warnings means your membership is terminated. No refund. ## Dress Code Closed-toe training shoes are mandatory. Proper training attire. No jeans. No sandals. No barefoot lifting except on a platform with prior agreement (Olympic lifting context). Shirts on at all times in shared areas. We are a serious gym, dress like you came to train. ## Chalk Policy Chalk is allowed on the powerlifting platforms on Floor 6. That is the only area. Liquid chalk is fine on the rest of the floors. If you chalk up, you wipe down the bar and the platform when you finish. Excess chalk left behind earns you a strike. ## Drop-Set and Equipment Fairness We do not have a formal "work-in" rule but the etiquette is clear. If someone is between sets on a piece you want, ask. If you are running drop sets or supersets that lock down multiple stations, watch the floor. During peak hours, do not hold three pieces of equipment at once. Common sense. If the gym is full and someone is waiting, wrap up your rest periods. Long rests are for quiet floors. ## Peak Hours Floors 6 and 7 get busiest between 17:00 and 20:00 weekdays. Saturday mornings (09:00 to 12:00) are also high traffic. If you want a quieter session, train between 11:00 and 15:00 or after 20:00. Floor 8 Open Gym is the overflow on Unlimited and + Open Gym plans. ## Photo and Video Policy **Personal content is fine.** Selfies, training clips for your own feed, progress shots. Train, film, post, no permission needed. **Filming others requires their consent.** Thai PDPA law treats unauthorised filming as a criminal offence with fines up to 200,000 THB and up to 10 years in prison. Take this seriously. Frame your shots so other members are not in them. **Commercial filming requires written approval.** Crews of any size, brand shoots, sponsored content with multiple cameras, lighting setups: all need the Filming Crew Policy signed off at least 2 days in advance. Message us on WhatsApp +66 97 945 5444. Crews are capped at 4 people, no shoots in locker rooms or restrooms, and a filming fee may apply. **Posing Room photos.** Reserve the room and shoot what you like. Personal use. We have a partner network for paid shoots (Oleg, George). Photo packages start at 4,000 THB / hour, include raw footage, reels packs, and long-form cinematic options. Ask at the front desk. ## Lockers and Belongings - Daily lockers are free. Bring something as collateral for the key (ID, card, watch). Collect at the end of the session. - Monthly lockers: 1,300 THB / month or 3,000 THB / 3 months. Your own locker, your own key. Subject to availability. - We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. Do not leave valuables in open lockers or on the floor. - Bags belong in lockers or the cubbies, not on the gym floor. ## Hygiene - Wipe down equipment after every set. Spray bottles and paper towels on every floor. - Shower before Reset Club (mandatory before sauna or ice bath, non-negotiable). - Use deodorant. We provide it in the changing rooms. - Sweat-soaked shirts on shared equipment is a strike. ## Children Ask the front desk before bringing anyone under 16. Staff will confirm whether the visit is appropriate for the session, time, and supervision available. ## Guests Members do not get free guest passes. Friends visiting Bangkok pay the standard day pass rate (500 THB UnReal Gym, 650 THB + Open Gym, 950 THB Unlimited). Bring them in during staffed hours. ## Music We pick the music. Curated playlists shift across the day to match the energy on the floor. If you want your own, bring headphones. Do not play music out loud from your phone. That is a strike. ## Membership Terms (Summary) - Health declaration required on sign-up. Train at your own risk. - We can close for maintenance or change hours with notice. - Membership freeze: max 6 weeks or 20% of duration, medical or visa needs documentation. - All sales final. Refunds only on extenuating circumstances with evidence. - English and Thai are the prevailing languages on the contract. Full terms at the front desk on request. And how to prepare for an InBody scan" heading: "How often to measure body composition" description: "How often to repeat an InBody scan, why gaps of several weeks beat daily checks, and InBody's own preparation checklist: food, exercise, water, clothing, timing and heat." updated: "2026-10-06" kind: guide cta: inbody short_answer: "Every 4 to 8 weeks is a sensible gap, with the same preparation each time. In one study of three InBody models, a change in body fat smaller than about 2.1 to 2.7 percentage points between two scans could not be separated from measurement error, so a daily or weekly scan mostly shows noise." - ## How often should you do an InBody scan? Every 4 to 8 weeks for most people. That matches InBody's India site, which recommends regular testing every 4 to 8 weeks under consistent conditions, and it fits the measurement evidence below. If you are in the first weeks of a new plan you may want a baseline, then the next scan after a full training block. Scanning more often than that mostly measures how hydrated and rested you were that day. ## Why not scan every week? Because a scan has a noise floor. McLester and colleagues (2020) scanned 67 healthy adults twice, 24 to 72 hours apart, on three InBody models. The devices were reliable, and the minimum difference needed between two scans to exceed measurement error was 2.12 to 2.73 percentage points for body fat percentage, 1.49 to 2.39 kg for fat mass and 1.60 to 2.32 kg for fat free mass. A real change smaller than that gap can hide inside the noise. That is our reasoning for leaving several weeks between scans, so that a change has time to grow larger than the gap. The same study found the InBody models underestimated body fat percentage against DXA, which is another reason to compare scan with scan on the same machine, not with a different method. ## How do you prepare for an InBody scan? InBody USA publishes a do and do not list for consistent conditions. In plain words: **Do** - Keep normal fluid intake the day before and hydrate one hour before the test. - Stand upright for 5 to 10 minutes before the test. - Test at the same time of day every time. - Take off heavy accessories such as jewellery and watches. - Allow 20 minutes for your body temperature to settle after hot or cold exposure. - Use the restroom before the test. **Do not** - Exercise before the test. InBody says to test only after you have fully recovered, which it puts at 1 to 3 days. - Eat before the test. Wait at least 3 hours after your last meal. - Wear heavy clothing, accessories or jewellery. - Have lotion or ointment on your hands or feet. - Wear socks or pantyhose. ## Can you scan after a workout, a sauna or an ice bath? InBody's list says no to exercise beforehand and asks for 20 minutes after exposure to hot or cold temperatures. At UnReal that matters, because the sauna and cold plunge at [Reset Club](/reset-club-bkk) are one lift ride from the gym floors. Our suggestion: scan first, then train and recover. If you scan on different days, do it at the same hour, before training, and note anything unusual such as a heavy night out or a long flight. ## Why does hydration matter? Because the scan infers your lean tissue from how current moves through body water. Kyle and colleagues (2004) wrote that BIA determines fat free mass and total body water in people without significant fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, and that its use in altered hydration states needs further research. So keep hydration as normal and as repeatable as you can. ## What should you track between scans? Three numbers, in this order: 1. Skeletal muscle mass, to see whether muscle is holding or rising. 2. Body fat mass in kilograms, because it does not hide behind a changing weight. 3. Body fat percentage, with the noise floor above in mind. Add your waist measurement and a progress photo under the same light if you like. The [InBody result sheet guide](/wiki/inbody-scan-explained) explains each line, and [what a good InBody score is](/wiki/good-inbody-score) explains the summary number. ## Sources - InBody USA, [InBody test preparation and technology](https://inbodyusa.com/general/inbody-test/) (read 2026-10-06). - InBody (inbody.in), [InBody score explained](https://www.inbody.in/blog/?p=3749), for the 4 to 8 week recommendation (read 2026-10-06). - McLester CN and others. By the UnReal Gym Bangkok team, with sources." updated: "2026-10-06" kind: guide cta: inbody short_answer: "An InBody scan estimates your body's water, protein, minerals and fat from how a weak electrical current travels through you, in about a minute. The result sheet turns that into body fat percentage, muscle, visceral fat, a score and a limb by limb muscle read. It is an estimate, so use it as a trend." - ## What does an InBody scan measure? An InBody scan estimates what your body weight is made of: water, protein, minerals and fat. It does this with bioelectrical impedance analysis, or BIA. InBody describes impedance as the resistance that occurs when alternating current flows through the body, and says it is the raw data behind every body composition result. InBody describes the test as non invasive and radiation free. At UnReal the scan takes about 60 seconds. ## How does the scan work, step by step? InBody's own test guide lists the steps: 1. Wipe your hands and feet with an InBody tissue. 2. Step onto the device, which measures your weight. 3. Enter your personal profile. 4. Take the handles with your thumbs on the electrodes. 5. Keep your arms straight and away from your body, relaxed and still, until the test finishes. The results print automatically when the test is done. ## What does each part of the result sheet show? InBody's test guide says the sheet shows water, protein, minerals and fat, both BMI and percent body fat, skeletal muscle mass balance, segmental muscle analysis, visceral fat distribution and target weight recommendations. In plain words: - **Body composition analysis:** your weight split into body water, protein, minerals and body fat mass. InBody USA notes that about 73 percent of fat free mass is water. - **Muscle and fat comparison:** your weight, skeletal muscle mass and body fat mass shown together, so you can compare muscle and fat against your weight. - **BMI and percent body fat:** InBody shows both, to compare apparent obesity (from weight and height) with actual obesity (from fat). Our guide to [healthy body fat percentage ranges](/wiki/body-fat-percentage-ranges) explains why the two can disagree. - **Segmental muscle analysis:** how lean mass is spread across each arm, each leg and the trunk. - **Visceral fat level:** an estimate of fat around the organs in the abdomen. See [visceral fat level explained](/wiki/visceral-fat-level). - **InBody score:** a single summary number. See [what a good InBody score is](/wiki/good-inbody-score). - **Target weight:** a suggested weight to reach a balanced composition. Treat it as a guide, not an instruction. ## Is an InBody scan accurate? It is useful, and it is an estimate. Three published sources say the same thing in different ways. The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism working group (Kyle and colleagues, 2004) wrote that BIA can determine fat free mass and total body water in people without significant fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, when appropriate equations and established procedures are used. They also noted that BIA suffers from a lack of standardised methods. McLester and colleagues (2020) tested three InBody models in 67 healthy adults on two days, against DXA. The InBody devices repeated well. Against DXA they underestimated body fat percentage and overestimated fat free mass, with small individual error, so the authors suggested they can stand in when DXA is not available, while practitioners should know the bias. A 2023 study (Nickerson and colleagues) compared a rapid four compartment model, DXA and an InBody 570 against a criterion four compartment model in 130 adults and found all three acceptable. The 95 percent limits of agreement for body fat percent ranged from about plus or minus 4.9 to 5.2 points across the methods. So one reading can be several points off, and two readings under the same conditions compare well with each other. That is why we treat a scan as a trend line, not a verdict. How to keep conditions the same is in [how often to measure body composition](/wiki/how-often-to-measure-body-composition). ## What can an InBody scan not tell you? It cannot diagnose a condition. Kyle and colleagues flag that segmental and multifrequency BIA in altered hydration states needs further research, so read a scan taken when your hydration is far from normal with extra caution. If a number worries you, such as a high visceral fat level, take it to a doctor. ## Where can you get an InBody scan in Bangkok? UnReal Gym has an InBody 570 on Floor 7 at Sukhumvit Soi 24, near BTS Phrom Phong. The card under this page has the prices and what is free. InBody reports it as a level, and its FAQ calls a level below 10 normal for adults. It is a scanner estimate, not a diagnosis, so take a high reading to a doctor." - ## What is visceral fat? Visceral fat is stored deep in the abdomen, around the organs. Subcutaneous fat sits under the skin, where you can pinch it. InBody describes visceral fat as metabolically active tissue, which is why it is tracked separately from total body fat. Weight alone does not show it. A World Health Organization expert consultation on BMI in Asian populations (2004) found that a substantial share of Asian people are at high risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease at BMIs below the standard overweight line of 25, which is a reason to look past the scale. ## What is a normal visceral fat level on an InBody scan? Below 10. InBody's FAQ says visceral fat level is its method of displaying the cross section of visceral fat as a level, and that for adults it is normal if the level is below 10. InBody's own materials describe the scale differently. One FAQ says it runs from 1 to 20. A page on InBody's India site says 1 to 30, with levels 1 to 9 as the healthy band (under 100 square centimetres of visceral fat area) and 10 to 14 as an elevated early warning (100 to 150 square centimetres). They agree on the line that matters: under 10 is the normal band, 10 and above is where InBody starts to flag it. ## How does a scanner estimate visceral fat? It estimates it from the same electrical impedance reading as the rest of the sheet, and InBody's India page says the level is calibrated against MRI measurements. So it is a model of visceral fat area, not a measurement of it. MRI or CT would measure it directly. That is why we read a level as a direction over months, not a number to chase week to week. Keep conditions the same, as described in [how often to measure body composition](/wiki/how-often-to-measure-body-composition). ## Is a high visceral fat level dangerous? A high reading is a reason to talk to a doctor, not a diagnosis. We are a gym, not a clinic. InBody's material links higher visceral fat levels with greater metabolic risk, and the practical step is to bring the printout to a doctor, who can say what to check. ## How do you reduce visceral fat? Exercise is the best supported lever we found. A systematic review and meta-analysis by Vissers and colleagues (2013) pooled 15 studies with 852 overweight adults and found exercise without a calorie restricted diet reduced visceral adipose tissue. Moderate or high intensity aerobic training had the highest potential, with reductions of more than 30 square centimetres in women and more than 40 in men after 12 weeks on CT analysis. Two honest limits. These were overweight adults in trials, not everyone, and the review looked at exercise alone. The ISSN position stand on diets and body composition adds that fat loss in general is driven by a sustained calorie deficit, and that resistance training with enough protein helps keep muscle while you lose fat. Our [body recomposition guide](/wiki/body-recomposition) puts those together. If you train at UnReal, a coach can build a plan around your sheet through [nutrition coaching](/nutrition-coaching-bangkok). ## Sources - InBody, [FAQ on visceral fat level](https://inbody.com/en/faq/?qr=&page=3) (read 2026-10-06). - InBody (inbody.in), [What is visceral fat and why it is more dangerous than you think](https://www.inbody.in/blog/what-is-visceral-fat-and-why-its-more-dangerous-than-you-think/) (read 2026-10-06). - WHO Expert Consultation.
